Reprinting and Publication Guidelines: The following are general guidelines for reprinting either version of the article "Officer-per-thousand formulas & other policing myths" by Campbell, Brann, and Williams.

  1. Publication: In order to publish this article in a newspaper, newsletter, book, magazine, on-line publication, or any other mass distribution media:
    1. Submit a request on letterhead for permission to publish the material to John H. Campbell, President, Campbell DeLong Resources, Inc. (CDRI)  (See contact information at the end of this page.)
    2. Gain written permission (by e-mail, fax, or other writing) for non-exclusive, one-time serial rights from CDRI, who manages licensing on behalf of all authors.
    3. Gain approval from CDRI for any desired changes, whether they be for length, style, or other purposes, prior to publication.
  2. Informal distribution: If you would like to reproduce a limited number of paper copies of the article for distribution to local individuals or to participants at conferences, trainings, or other meetings where the topic of resource planning for police agencies is relevant, such permission is conditioned on all of the following:
    1. Reprint from one of the two original PDFs of the article, verbatim, in its entirety, with existing copyright notices, attributions, and author contact information intact.
    2. Permission for an individual, organization, or agency to print and distribute up to fifty copies is granted here.  Permission to distribute a larger number of copies will typically be granted upon receipt of an e-mail, fax, or letter (sent to the address shown below) identifying: Your name, organization, address, e-mail address, intended use of the article and the maximum number of copies that you anticipate distributing.
    3. The article may not be modified, adapted, or excerpted in any form, with the exception that brief excerpts from the article may be quoted with full attribution, including author contact information.
    4. The sole permitted modification to the article is the addition of an optional cover page, developed by the person, organization, or agency distributing, that indicates your contact information and that the article was reprinted with permission.
    5. The article may be sold for your direct cost of printing and distribution,but may not be sold for a profit without prior permission from CDRI.
  3. Withdrawal of consent.  Consent to reproduce the materials may be withdrawn by written notice (including e-mail) at any time if CDRI determines, at its sole discretion, that the use of the materials is not consistent with the mission intended by the authors in creating the original document.
  4. Purpose and cost.  Our primary intent is to promote broad distribution of this information without compromising the integrity of the article.  As such, until further notice, permission for reproducing the article, when granted, shall be done free of charge.
